Maryland: Black Kids at Ottobar
The Jacksonville, Fla., buzz-band doesn't have the world's most politicallycorrect name, but if you find yourself aching for that '80s new wave sound, Black Kids may be just what the doctor ordered this weekend. Saturday night, 9 p.m. Tickets are $12, $14 the day of the show.
Washington: The Blind Boys of Alabama at the Kennedy Center
It's almost too much brass and soul for one bill: The Blind Boys of Alabama and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. With a collaborative album out in stores and a live DVD on the way, the aging musicians are a match made in gospel heaven. Sunday night, 7 p.m. Tickets are between $25 and $65.
Virginia: Lez Zeppelin at the State Theatre
Valhalla, they are coming ... to Falls Church! Since a full-fledged Led Zeppelin reunion isn't looking bloody likely anytime soon, all-girl tribute group Lez Zeppelin may be the next best thing. Nothing will ever take the place of ear-shattering Page on Plant action, but word has it the Lez girls know how to bring the hammer of the gods. Friday night, 7 p.m. Tickets are $19 the day of the show.
