Police arrested a second suspect Tuesday in connection with an attempted robbery and assault on Fraternity Row last month, police said.

University Police, with the help of Montgomery County authorities, arrested Gaithersburg resident Michael O. Connolly, 22, in Olney, University Police Spokesman Paul Dillon said.

Connolly was charged with robbery and second degree assault and held on $7,500 bond, Dillon said.

Police have also arrested a former student, Jose Manuel Gonzales, 23, in connection with the crime.

According to court documents, the incident began in Santa Fe Café when the victim, freshman James Sensor, made an in inappropriate comment about Gonzales' sister.

Court documents say Gonzales and another male suspect followed Sensor after they were all kicked out of the bar during an argument about Gonzales's comment.

When Sensor reached Fraternity Row, the two men began punching and kicking him, and then tried to take his wallet, according to the court filings.

Court records show Connolly has been arrested on criminal charges four times in the past, including several burglary and theft charges.
