POLICE INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE AT UNIV. TOWN CENTER
Kevin Litten
Issue date: 2/29/08 Section: News
A man was fatally shot on Friday inside an apartment at University Town Center in Hyattsville, county law enforcement sources said.
A source close to the homicide investigation said police do not believe the man shot was a student. He was, however, believed to be visiting his girlfriend who is a student at Howard University in Washington, the source said.
The man was transported to a hospital after the shooting, which took place at about 2 p.m., Officer Henry Tippett, a Prince George's County Police spokesman said. The man was shot in the lower body and died at the hospital, Tippett said.
Investigators do not believe the killing was random, the source close to the investigation said.
The source also said the man was shot in an apartment on the 10th floor of the housing complex. The Towers at University Town Center, as the complex is called, houses hundreds of students from several different schools on Belcrest Road near Prince George's Plaza in Hyattsville.
Schools represented at University Town Center include the University of Maryland, Howard University, Catholic University and American University.
The source provided details of the crime on the condition that they not be named.

It's funny - college kids think they are safe when they have mommy and daddy pay ridiculous rental rates in this somewhat new complex. Little do they know, this place was built in a terrible neighborhood. (Continued…)

The day that area in Hyattsville has LESS crime than College Park is the day it snows in July. Get your facts straight. Bank robbery with no gun or weapon? Please. (Continued…)

You college kids seem to be ignoring the vast communities of non-college students (i.e., homeowners with families) who live in the UTC area and desperately want it to succeed - some have even put their life's savings into opening businesses there. (Continued…)
