BREAKING: Olde Town 'cuddler' assaults two women

Issue date: 3/3/08 Section: News
Police said a man entered two student residences Sunday morning and assaulted two women.
The crimes may be related to the 'cuddler' who has struck downtown in the past. A man has been known to enter unlocked homes and cuddle with women or kiss them while they are sleeping. In one case in September, the man raped a student, police have reported.
In the first of yesterday's incidents, police responded to a call at about 6 a.m. where they met with a female student who reported a man came into her bedroom and kissed her on the cheek while she was sleeping. The woman was sharing the bed with her boyfriend at the time and the suspect fled when the woman awakened.
In the second crime, a woman reported that she had been groped while she was sleeping in her bedroom at about 6 a.m. It was unclear when the victim called police about the second incident.
In a statement, police wrote, "in each incident, the suspect entered the residence unchallenged to attend a party. Once inside, the suspect entered unlocked bedrooms."
The suspect description is similar to one given in the past in peeping Tom crimes and "cuddler" incidents. The man is described as a white male between 5-feet-10 inches and six feet tall, early 20s with large eyebrows, dark eyes and dark hair. The suspect was also described as wearing a black wool coat with dark pants.
Anyone with information should call Detective Clarke or Detective Grill at 301-699-2601.
Police are holding a press conference today at District 1 police headquarters in Hyattsville to provide more information about the incident.
Tomorrow's Diamondback will include an updated story about Sunday's crimes.
