Police are searching for a man who attempted to rob the Chevy Chase Bank in downtown College Park on Friday afternoon, police said.

The man approached a female teller and passed her a note reading "$3000 NOW," according to a Prince George's County Police investigative report.

The teller then asked the man for his account number, but he said he didn't have one and demanded the money, the report said.

The bank manager came to the teller's assistance and after some questioning, the man said he wanted the bank to issue him a cash advance, the report said.

When the manager requested his credit card, the man said he would retrieve it from his car and quickly left the bank, the report said.

Police and a helicopter searched the area, but failed to find the suspect, the report said.

The suspect was described as about 6 feet 3 inches tall, in his early 20s, slender and clean shaven, the report said.

University Police Spokesman Paul Dillon could not comment further on the incident because the Prince George's County Police is conducting the investigation.

Prince George's County Police did not return calls for comment.

Last March, a man wearing a ski mask approached the teller counter at the M&T Bank on Knox Road in an attempted robbery. He was also unsuccessful.

Earlier that year, the Bank of America on Route 1 was robbed at gunpoint.
