DURHAM, N.C. - With 13 seconds to go in a 13-13 tied game, Duke had a free possession opportunity. The Blue Devils' shot sailed over the goal, out-of-bounds and overtime seemed assured. But there were still seven long seconds left to go in regulation.

The Terrapin women's lacrosse team engaged the Blue Devils in a thrilling offensive shootout that came down to the final few seconds. With the game still tied at 13 and just three seconds left in regulation, the Blue Devils cut through the Terp defense to fire in the game-winning goal, stunning the Terps 14-13.

"We showed a lot of moments of greatness and moments of weakness," senior midfielder Dana Dobbie said. "We still have a lot of time left in the season to build on that. We are going to be prepared the next time we see them. I think Maryland-Duke is always going to be a great game; everyone is going to come to play. The next time we play them, I think we will come out on top when it matters most."

The loss snapped the Terps' two-game winning streak and extended the Terps' losing streak in Durham, which dates back to 2002, to four.

The first 10 minutes of the game was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded goals to a 3-3 tie. The Terps broke the stalemate by scoring three unanswered goals to seize the momentum and a 6-3 lead.

Senior attacker Lauren Cohen scored two of her team's leading four goals during the Terps' 6-3 run.

Following the Terps' run, Duke called a timeout and regrouped. The Blue Devils came out of the timeout and scored three goals in three minutes and 37 seconds to tie the game at six.

"We said in that time-out not to let it slow us down. It did," said senior midfielder Kelly Kasper said. "We weren't getting it defensively. We were fouling and gave them easy shots."

With nine minutes and five seconds remaining before halftime, the Terps called a timeout of their own after the Blue Devils' 3-0 run. The strategy worked as the Terps outscored Duke 3-2 in the remainder of the first half. Senior goalie Allie Buote made a critical save to preserve the Terps' lead and boost the team's morale going into halftime.
