CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Boston College point guard Tyrese Rice exploded for 46 points against North Carolina a couple of weeks ago, but he was off last night - until the second half, that is.

Rice had just two points at halftime on 1-of-7 shooting, but he came out on fire in the second half as he led the Eagles to victory. The senior All-ACC first-team selection finished with 19 points and 4 assists. He was missing open shots in the first half, so in the second he decided to take it to the rim. Rice was able to penetrate with ease a lot of times and scored most of his points in the paint.

n Dominated on the boards

The Terps have been a pretty good rebounding team this season, but last night they were absolutely manhandled down low.

Boston College out-rebounded the Terps 41-31, the 14th time the Terps have lost the rebounding battle this season. Bambale Osby and James Gist struggled to get rebounds, even on defense, as the Eagles' big men seemed more determined to grab the boards.

"They just destroyed us on the glass," coach Gary Williams said.

n Second-half letdowns

The Terps led 31-25 at halftime last night, but it didn't hold up.

It was the sixth time this season the Terps have lost a game after leading at halftime. All six losses came against ACC opponents (Boston College twice, Clemson, Duke and Virginia Tech twice).

n Around the ACC

No. 9 Florida State 70, No. 8 Wake Forest 60

Guard Jason Rich scored 22 points to lead Florida State past Wake Forest in the opening game of the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles, who are making a late NCAA Tournament push, will face top-seeded North Carolina today at noon.

No. 5 Miami 63, No. 12 N.C. State 50

The Hurricanes likely locked up an NCAA Tournament berth with yesterday's rather easy win. Guard James Dews led Miami with 14 points in a game that featured only 34 combined field goals. Miami plays fifth-seeded Virginia Tech today at 2:30 p.m.

No. 7 Georgia Tech 94, No. 10 Virginia 76

Five players scored in double figures for Georgia Tech, which shot a blistering 57.9 percent from the field. The Yellow Jackets take on No. 2-seeded Duke tonight at 7.

Gary have Gist play in the post more, it might actually help the team do important things big men are supposed to do, like rebound!

Memo to Grevis Vasquez, STFU and play the game instead of making excuses. (Continued…)

Memo to Grevis Vasquez: Please just shut up!! Stop giving interviews saying how you are going to do this and that. I'm fed up with it. Just start concentrating on playing better and stop undoing all the good plays you make with the monumental stupid ones. (Continued…)
