Men's basketball heads to Minnesota for NIT

The Terrapin men's basketball team received its postseason schedule yesterday, and winter coats may be necessary.

The Terps (18-14, 8-8 ACC) head to Minneapolis to take on Minnesota (20-13, 8-10 Big Ten) in the first round of the NIT on Tuesday, after receiving a No. 5-seed in the tournament. If the Terps advance to the second round, they will likely have to travel to Syracuse, as the Orange (19-13, 9-9 Big East) are the East Region No. 1 seed.

Minnesota, under first-year coach Tubby Smith, started the season on a surprising tear. The Golden Gophers opened the year 10-1, albeit against weak competition, en route to a 20-win season that surprised many.

They are led by guard Lawrence McKenzie and forward Dan Coleman, who average 12.2 and 11.9 points per game, respectively. And the Golden Gophers recently knocked off NCAA Tournament-bound Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament.

The game will start at 9:30 and be televised on ESPN.

All right NIT here we come! Gotta crawl before we can walk . . .

Minnesota, Syracuse . . . these are not weak teams. Minn, on a strong night, probably like playing Wake, and playing Syracuse like playing someone between VaTek and Clemson. (Continued…)

MD will sulk and lose in a landslide. I would only wish that they would bring their "A" game, but I think it is more realistic to see them play like they did against Manhattan in the last NIT. (Continued…)

NCAA tournament--Saint Marys in Terps out, Saint Josephs in Terps out, Siena in Terps out, AMERICAN in Terps out, MD-BALTIMORE CO. (Continued…)

This team is horrific. Vasquez reminds me of Gilchrist the way he turns the ball over, and dribbles from foul line extended to foul line extended repeatedly. (Continued…)

Terps lose by 10 tonight in a game featuring more of the same. What a bunch of worthless fucks. From national champions to not even being able to compete in the NIT without having the first two games at Comcast. (Continued…)

I have been a disappointed Terp for too long. Ever since they won the glorious 2002 championship, the team has tanked and disappointed repeatedly.

I'm curious as to whether this new Jin Soo Kim recruit will help the program. (Continued…)

Yow! Takin' out Minnesota, at their own barn! Almost like the legendary Terps of old . . . now Syracuse at the Carrier Dome - an old Big East team - let's see if the Terps can take this one . (Continued…)
