Police say they are looking for two men in connection with a strong-arm robbery involving two women near the Knox Box apartments yesterday morning.
According to a crime alert sent to the university community, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. yesterday, when two women, one of whom is a student, were approached by two men who tried to start a conversation with them.
A struggle broke out, and the two men fled with the women's purses toward Route 1. One of the women suffered minor injuries.
Students who live in the area of the robbery said they did not see the incident take place, but did spot the victims sitting outside near their apartments.
According to the residents, who did not want to be named, the two victims said they were being followed by the suspects, then pretended to talk on the phone to make it appear they were meeting more people. The suspects approached the victims, briefly began talking to them and then grabbed for their purses, the residents said.
The residents said neither of the victims appeared injured, though one was swung around during the struggle for her purse. The residents said they did not see any weapons.
Maj. Mark Sparks, who prepared the crime alert, said the Prince George's County Police Department is conducting an investigation but could not provide any more details.
Prince George's Police could not be reached for comment.
