Men's tennis splits weekend

The Terrapin men's tennis team went into its final road trip of the regular season needing at least one win - and came out of it with just that.
After squeaking out a 4-3 win at Clemson (15-16, 1-8 ACC) on Saturday though, the Terps (10-8, 2-7) fell to Georgia Tech in the Terps' second ACC battle in as many days.
Much like the day before, the Terps headed into the match tied with Georgia Tech (13-9, 3-6) in the ACC standings. This time, however, the Terps came out on the wrong side of a 6-1 score.
Despite it being the Yellow Jackets' Senior Day, it was their freshmen who proved too much for the Terps. Four of Georgia Tech's five singles wins came from freshmen, and each of their doubles teams paired a senior with a freshman.
Although the Terps were down early and the team match was clinched at 4-0, the Terps didn't roll over and quit.
"I give the credit to Maryland for coming back and fighting hard," Georgia Tech coach Kenny Thorne said. "They are a much improved program."
Michael Coleman lost his match at No. 5 singles in straight sets, but the senior battled hard in the second set and almost kept the Terps alive. After Coleman's loss clinched the win for the Yellow Jackets, the Terps won one match and took two others down to the wire, eventually losing in the third set.
Junior Nickolai Nielsen again came through for the Terps, providing the lone point in a three-set win at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Roshan Potarazu, playing in only his second ACC match of the season, lost at No. 6 singles in three sets, and sophomore David Kwon let a first set lead slip away at the No. 2 position.
The Terps have two matches remaining in their regular-season schedule. They will host Florida State and Miami at the end of next week in their final matches before the ACC tournament.
