A College Park bucket list

Attention seniors and the lucky few who manage to graduate early! Before you pack up your bags and move far away from the glorious city of College Park, there are certain things that you must do before you graduate as a Terrapin alumnus. Check them off, one-by-one, during your final year at the university.

No. 1 – Climb to the top of Byrd Stadium

While everyone boasts the campus is a short Metro ride down to Washington, students only need to go to the football field to see our nation's capital. Rumor has it, if you climb to the top of our university's football field on a clear day, you can see the Washington Monument.

No. 2 – Adele's Sundae

Eat an entire Brownie Sundae Spectacular at Adele's restaurant in the Stamp Student Union. Sure, this dessert is advertised as being able to feed two to four people, eating it by yourself is integral to a full university experience. While this dessert will likely leave you with a stomach ache, conquering the fishbowl full of hot brownies, ice cream, bananas, caramel and sprinkles is a definite must-do before you leave the university. And after you devour this masterpiece, the fishbowl with "University of Maryland" on it is yours to keep.

No. 3 – Swim in the fountain

So really, you can't quite swim in the fountain on McKeldin Mall. This 16-by-250-foot fountain is no Olympic swimming pool, but it is worth taking a dip in this prominent feature of the campus at least once. Just dip in your toes or get all the way in. Either way, you aren't baptized as a Terp unless you grace these waters.

No. 4 – Kermit the Frog

Located in front of the Student Union, alumnus Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog await your company. Before you graduate, make sure to take your picture, as often as possible, with the man and the frog who let us all know that "it's not easy being green." Henson, who graduated from the university in 1960, is one of our most famous alumni. Your Facebook albums from your college days just won't be the same without this picture.

No. 5 – Get quoted in The Diamondback

There's a certain glory when you see your name in print, so try to get quoted in The Diamondback before you graduate from the university. Clip out the article. Stick it on your fridge. Mail it to your mom. Basically, you are now famous.
