One of the best ways to get involved at the university is to join a group or club. Here is a list of groups, clubs and organizations that can be found here on the campus:

Language House

If you're an aficionado for all things foreign, then the Language House is the perfect place for you. The Language House is a living-learning program for students who are second-semester freshmen or above who are interested in language and culture immersion. To learn more about this program and other groups within it, visit www.languages.umd.edu/lh/.

Challah for Hunger

Love baking and eating? This group allows you do both. The organization seeks to raise profits to help people in need via the baking and selling of challot bread. Challot bread is baked every Thursday session and sold on Fridays at Hillel's Bobb's Cafe. Challot is sold for around $5 a loaf. Half of the profits are donated to a Darfur relief fund through the American Jewish World Service, while 40 percent of the profits are donated to a "guest" advocacy group that Challah for Hunger hosts each week. If interested in joining the group, contact Maryland Hillel.

Terps for Animal Welfare

A recently established group at the university, this group seeks to raise awareness about animal cruelty and assist in the fight against animal abuse. Terps for Animal Welfare is primarily dedicated to helping animal shelters within the College Park area. Meeting times and locations are yet to be determined, but the first meeting of the semester will be held immediately after the First Look Fair. If interested in joining, contact tawexec@gmail.com.

The Juggling Club

If you ever happen to walk around the McKeldin Mall on Tuesday and Friday evenings,  you'll probably see members of the Juggling Club working on a couple of tricks. The group is not limited to expert jugglers — students are encouraged to give it a try. The club also offers skilled students  the opportunity to showcase their skills at the annual university convention for jugglers. If interested in joining, go to the sundial on the mall Tuesdays and Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m.

For more information on these and more clubs at the university, attend the First Look Fair on the mall Sept. 16 and Sept. 17.
