Terrapins football offensive coordinator Gary Crowton will not return next season, several media outlets reported yesterday.

A source told The Washington Post that the team's coaching staff found out early yesterday afternoon, and The Baltimore Sun reported that his departure will be negotiated between him and the school.

Crowton, whose offense found only middling success during an erratic first season with the team, still has two years left on a contract that guarantees him more than $500,000 per year.

A team spokesman declined to comment on the reports, saying the athletics department does not discuss personnel matters.

Less than a week ago, The Denver Post reported that Crowton had expressed interest in the vacant coaching job at Colorado State. While he publicly maintained his commitment to the program in the days following The Denver Post's report, Crowton said through a team spokesman that at some point he wanted to be a head coach again.
