One man was fatally stabbed and another was injured early Monday morning off Hollywood Road in what Prince George's County police are calling a domestic dispute.

County police found Johnny Elmer Alvarez-Gomez, 28, of Gaithersburg, and a 19-year-old man from Riverdale bleeding in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on Rhode Island Avenue at 3:55 a.m., after responding to a call about the stabbing.

Alvarez-Gomez died in the hospital that day. The 19-year-old is still recovering and not being identified because he's considered a potential witness, police said.

Police arrested Roberto Edmundo Cruz, 45, of the 5000 block of Hollywood Road on Monday and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the crime.

Police said the stabbing occurred at Cruz's house and that he knew both the victims, though they could not give details about what prompted the incident.

University Police spokesman Paul Dillon said the department did not send out a crime alert because no one involved in the case has a connection to the university and it was not within their jurisdiction.

"It was far from campus, and we didn't think it presented any danger to the university community," Dillon said. "We don't use crime alerts just to get out information. We use them to keep the campus safe."

Monday's murder was the second College Park has seen this year.

In the last incident, a dead newborn in black plastic bag was found floating near the surface of Lake Artemesia on March 22. The case is still under investigation.
