No one was injured after a Prince George’s County cruiser struck a Shuttle-UM bus Wednesday night while the officer was searching for a suspect.

A Prince George's County Police cruiser collided with a university DOTS shuttle bus on Paint Branch Parkway Wednesday night, according to police.

No one was injured, and only the police car sustained minor damages, District 1 Commander Maj. Robert Brewer said.

The accident occured near the College Park Metro station just before midnight Wednesday when a county officer lost control of his car and hit the back end of the bus. The officer was actively searching for an unrelated suspect, but there was no chase, Brewer said.

"We are investigating the accident, and I believe [the officer] swerved to avoid another vehicle, then struck the bus," Brewer said.

Brewer said the officer was "a little stiff" yesterday but otherwise unharmed and did not require medical attention at the scene. The bus driver and passengers were not injured, he added.

Junior chemical engineering major Juan Quintero Moreno said he saw several police cruisers stopped on the side of the road when he drove past the scene Wednesday night.

Brewer said those officers happened to be passing by the accident en route to other calls but stopped to make sure everyone was unharmed.

Department of Transportation Services Director David Allen could not be reached for comment yesterday.
