Police are seeking two suspects who allegedly entered a party in the 4600 block of Norwich Road, where one displayed a handgun and demanded property from attendees early Saturday morning.
While the suspects reportedly assaulted some of the partygoers, no one was seriously injured, according to University Police spokesman Capt. Marc Limansky.
The two suspects first arrived at the party before midnight, Limansky said, but were denied entry into the house. A small fight outside the residence ensued, but the two suspects left shortly after, Limansky said. They returned later to search for a set of keys that fell during the skirmish, and again left the house, he said.
At about 1:30 a.m., the two suspects allegedly returned to the party for a third time, worked their way inside, and one displayed a handgun and asked for partygoers' property, Limansky said. The pair reportedly left the scene in an older model black Cadillac, he added.
One suspect is described as a 5-foot-11-inch, 188-pound black male wearing a black North Face vest, a long sleeved white T-shirt, a ski mask and earrings; the other is described as a Hispanic male between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall, with both arms tattooed.
The incident is under investigation and police are uncertain exactly how all the events played out, according to Limansky. Police do not know how many party attendees were assaulted because the party may have been winding down when the suspects entered the home the third time, Limansky said.
"It's a pretty brave thing to do to go into a party with a gun," Limansky said. "I'd imagine people would comply with the orders of the individual until they left."
Prince George's County Police officials have not released the amount of property stolen, Limansky said.
Many students read about the incident in a campus-wide email alert disseminated Saturday evening, and some said they found the incident unsettling but not a deterrent from going to parties.
"It's scary, but it isn't something that's going to stop me from going out to parties or anything in College Park," junior kinesiology major Icah De Guzman said. "We're in College Park, so this kind of stuff happens all of the time. And after all of the crime alerts that I've received in the past, I wouldn't say that they don't faze me, but I'd say that they just make me more aware of my surroundings."
