Terp men’s basketball freshman center Jordan Williams was arrested last month in his hometown of Torrington, Conn., on breach of peace and assault charges.

Saturday, he turned himself in, was released and is awaiting a court date on Oct. 5 in Connecticut.

Details of the arrests – there were four others who were arrested in connection with the incident – have not been disclosed because the warrant was sealed, according to The Register Citizen News.

The alleged incident occured on Aug. 8.

Williams, a 6-foot-10 frontcourt player and the No. 85-ranked recruit in the nation by Rivals.com, has a chance to contribute right away to the Terps, who lost forward Dave Neal to graduation after last season.

funny how there were numerous articles our when jordan was "charged with assault" but none when the truth comes out?!!!

for the record, jordan is not a thug, he did not hit a girl, nor did he hit anyone. he was in the area to STOP a fight from occurring between 2 girls. he attempted to break up the fight unlike the other 2 individuals who were onlooking (a girl and a guy) and immediately was confronted by the guy who got in his face telling him to "let them fight" he pushed this individual away from him, as his back was against a wall at this poitn adn the guy was in his face, and the kids family decided to go for gold. in case you didn't know the scum of the earth lives in torrington, ct. i live there, and its completely deteriorating, i refuse to claim it usually. jordan comes from one of the few good families in town nowadays. but sincehes black everyone immediately wanted to assume that he is a thug, right? fact is people in torrington are low lifes and see jordan going places and want to hate on this and will do whatever they can to eithe rhold him back or benefit while being as lazy as possible even if that means facing nonsense assault charges against a kid who did nothing

We've already been through this with Nik Caner-Medley. Nothing to see here. We can only hope he said something as comical as Nik did though.

Terp fans quit your crying ... this year's team is soft and will need a few thugs like Jordan Williams.

In CT, Assault in the 3rd degree is defined as:

- intentionally causing physical injury
- recklessly causing serious physical injury
- with criminal negligence, causing physical serious injury with a deadly weapon

Obviously the cops mistook his Bible-discussion group for a fight. Typical thug life.

A thug? He's a kid who got into a little fight with some other kids, and someone called to complain. They were arrested for a breach of peace. It's not like he beat the crap out of anyone, or else they would have charged him with real assault, not this third degree crap.

According to his hometown paper, the incident began allegedly on Aug. 8 in Alvord Park in Torrington, with a fight between Williams, city resident Jennifer Guerrero, a 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy. Terrific. Not only is the kid a thug, he assaults girls. Nice pick, Gary. Maybe next time you can recruit one of the Fenger High thugs who beat the honors student to death in Chicago.

I know Jordan and have to say he is a good kid. He was always polite and respectful. I think he made a mistake so give the kid a break. He comes from a good family and has his head screwed on straight.

Jordan is a good kid. It's sad that people won't hear the full story before judging him. Jordan is by no means a thug nor does he have any character issues. He turned himself in to get the matter behind him and continue on with his life and career. I think people should also realize that when you're 6'8 260 and you're a popular athlete, you're name gets thrown around alot. I doubt he will get kicked off the team but I'm pretty sure he will have to sit some games. Not because of the situation, but just to make people happy. I'm sure Debbie Yow will have some say in his punishment as well. I would guess at least 2 games but no more than 5.
give him a break

Well it happened back in August. Ever get into trouble or a fight then have the guy file charges AFTERwards? i happens all the time. That is why cops run your name when you get pulled over, many people have warrants for things they did and some don't know about it. Hopefully the guy will get his stuff taken care of and not be made an example of just because he is a Terp and on TV. However if he screwed up then he deserves what is coming to him no matter how tall or what his field goal percentage is.

give me a break, is Gary supposed to have a crystal ball? I'm sure the same people who criticize him for not landing high profile recruits (most of which are thugs) will now be criticizing him for landing a guy with bad character. Lonnie Baxter was one of the biggest criminals we've ever had, but it's okay because he was on the national championship team right?

UM doesn't rank too well in regards to student athletes. A college education is costly and anyone representing a university should consider their scholarship a privledge and act accordingly. Recruitment should include academics and character.
