The No. 26 Terrapin gymnastics team will face its biggest test to date when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a quad meet against Illinois-Chicago, Kent State and Michigan tomorrow.
Coming off two consecutive home sweeps, the Terps (4-1, 1-0 East Atlantic Gymnastics League) will face two top-15 squads in No. 8 Michigan and No. 11 Kent State.
"It's a great opportunity for us to prove ourselves," coach Brett Nelligan said. "We'll need to give our best routines to stay competitive."
The meet also provides an opportunity for the Terps to avenge their only loss, which came Jan. 9 at Kent State. The Golden Flashes bested Maryland's highest season-opening score since 2000 by a 194.775-193.125 margin.
The win sparked Kent State to new heights this season. The Golden Flashes are currently 5-0, earning the program's highest ranking in program history in the process.
Michigan, which captured its 17th Big Ten Conference crown last season, is 5-1 this year and 6-1 all-time against the Terps.
UIC won back-to-back Eastern College Athletic Conference titles in 2009 and 2010, and currently stands 2-3 after finishing third in the first annual Illinois/Michigan quad-meet Jan. 23.
The Terps will welcome back senior Kelsey McDermid, who missed last Friday's home meet against Ball State and Towson to attend to family concerns.
Sophomore Ally Krikorian, who also missed Friday's meet after suffering a foot injury during warm-ups, will be a game-time decision.
"[The foot] is feeling a lot better," Krikorian said yesterday. "We'll see if it still hurts, and if not, I'll hopefully be doing bars."
