Athletics Director Debbie Yow is leaving to take the athletics director position at N.C. State, this university's athletics department announced today.
Yow was formally introduced at a press conference Friday afternoon. The search for Yow's successor will begin immediately, according to President C.D. Mote.
Yow had served as Athletics Director for the past 16 years, overseeing a dramatic expansion of the Athletics Department to 27 teams and the construction of Comcast Center in 2002 and the addition of luxury suites to Byrd Stadium last year.
Her tenure at the university had also been marred by public discord with men's basketball coach Gary Williams and an inability to buy out football coach Ralph Friedgen's contract after a 2-10 season last year.
